Dr Vish Wijesekera is a clinical cardiologist in adult congenital heart disease and thoracic aortic disease as well as cardiac imaging. He graduated from the University of Auckland in 1999. Having completed his basic medical training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane including one year at Westmead Hospital in Sydney, he completed his advanced training in cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. Following that, he undertook a one year Clinical Fellowship in Adult Congenital Heart Disease at The Prince Charles Hospital, a further Clinical Fellowship at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital (UK) and another year of Clinical Fellowship training at St Paul’s Hospital Vancouver. There he gained experience in Adult Congenital Heart Disease, thoracic aortic disease, and Cardiac Obstetric Medicine particularly in relation to young women with congenital heart disease and cardiovascular imaging. Since returning to Australia in 2014, he has been working as an Adult Congenital Heart Disease Specialist, Marfan Syndrome and Aortopathy specialist and General cardiologist at The Prince Charles Hospital. He has presented in several local and international conferences in his sub-speciality interest of Adult Congenital Heart Disease and thoracic aortic disease. Vish is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland and has been involved in teaching medical students and supervising cardiology advanced trainees.
